4 Ways to Optimize Your Website for Universal Search Results
December 8, 2009 by Brian Hawkins
Here is my cliff notes version of last nights Boston SEO networking event that hosted Robert Cavilla, managing partner at UpwordSEM.com as the guest speaker & food sponsor. Bob did a excellent job of feeding our brains in universal search knowledge and stomachs with a meal from Average Joe’s. You can check out the additional positive reviews from the event attendees.
Ok so here is the four ways to help optimize your website for universal search as discussed in last nights Boston SEO networking event.
1. Product
Shopping feeds are a great way to get scene on the page. Set up a Merchant Center account with Google. Then try to send out a completely filled updated data feed out as often as you can.
2. Local
- Sign up for Google Maps to verify your local business.
- Post the most detailed description that you can to help provide value to the search engine with business profiles, bio’s to coupons
- Put your company’s address at the footer of every page of the site
- Add keywords to your company title. UpwardSEM did this for a local lawyer client to get them rank for “Boston law firm”
- Set up an account with local search directories to earn multiple search rankings. Such as MerchantCircle & Localezze.
3. Video
- Send an XML site map feed
- Take a short text transcript as an object tag. This will help tell the search engine what’s in the video
- Build out an optimized landing page with copy around each unique video
4. News / Press
- Submit optimized press releases and put http:// + url at the start to help RSS scraper sites pick up your story with your link.
- If you have daily news worthy content. Submit to Google & Yahoo news for inclusion
Thanks for all that attended & Bob for taking the time to help educate the group. for those of you who missed out or want to learn more, Upward SEM will be hosting a one day training event in January.
